News and Playbill format for 2014-2015

Our first Bare Oaks Players members meeting took place on Saturday March 8, 2014. 

Our Playbill draft for this season was discussed.  

Although only a few members showed up, we covered the agenda items and read

two plays, out loud. We had a great time and laughed a lot.

We also talked about our mandate for this year and methods on how to promote the

group and augment participation. A few action items were taken away and a follow

up gathering was recommended. This will be scheduled when a bit more sun shows up.

 

As per the Playbill (above), our first event will be held at Bare Oaks Family Naturist

Park on Sunday June 22, 2014 at 1pm – close to the pool area – rain or shine.

Bring a pot luck item and a poem to share. Any language. Nothing sad please and no

longer than 3 minutes. We hope to see you.

 

 

Call for Directors. We are getting close to being ready for a call for auditions – which

we will most likely hold in April /May 2014. Before scheduling auditions, we need directors and plays.

If you are interested, please let us know as soon as possible.

Call for Members. We are also looking for additional help in all aspects of mounting a

production, mostly actors.

The Vagina Monologues (TVM) 2014

Wow. We did it. A fabulous accomplishment by cast and crew members. A big thank you for the personal sacrifices each of one of you made to make this performance a huge success.

After months of rehearsals, learning a new script (yes, V-Day changes the content of the script on a yearly basis) and getting our sea legs, we completed our voyage aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam cruise ship, hosted by Bare Necessities, Tour and Travel.

We engaged on this unique opportunity after Petra Scheller as representative for Bare Necessities, asked if we would be interested in doing The Vagina Monologues on board their nude cruise in February 2014.

After dealing with a few challenges, including replacing a cast member, learning 3 new monologues and new scene transitions notwithstanding staging a performance without access to the stage or technical staff, we did it!

We raised funds totalling $4,780 with the help of our sponsors, of which $4,300 is going to our local York Region Abuse Program (YRAP).

Find below one picture, depicting the 6 cast members that successfully delivered to the passengers of the Nieuw Amsterdam cruise ship, the V-Day messages that Eve Ensler so eloquently authors.

A gentle reminder to all of you interested, that we are meeting on March 8^th, 2014 at 1:00pm at Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park.  We hope to see a bunch of you to start discussing the 2014-15 Playbill for Bare Oaks Players.

If you cannot make it, please do let us know if you want to take the lead with an event, or simply recommend one for us to read and assess.  The piece should be a one-act, less than 90 minutes in total.

 

Playbill 2014/15 - Discussion and readings

On Saturday March 8, 2014, Bare Oaks Players will be hosting a meeting to discuss the Playbill format for 2014/15 and start reading a few plays.

We would like to start at 1:00pm at Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park and hope to keep you busy and engaged until approximately 4:00pm.

Since we would like to be prepared, please let us know if you will be attending.

For those of you who did not have the opportunity to attend the "Undressed rehearsal" of The Vagina Monologues, I can tell you that it was well received with about 30 audience members in attendance.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday March 8, 2014 at 1:00pm at Bare Oaks.

The first task at hand for this newly formed theatre group, was to name it appropriately.

Fourteen (14) names were submitted and most resonated well.

A committee was formed (the cast and crew of The Vagina Monologues) and with very little debate, we voted for Bare Oaks Players.

Thank you for those who submitted this name. Yes, we had more than one submission of the name.

Our first task is now complete, one that will identify our group and its mandate.
