TVM 2015 Benefit results and Play reading date

Another year has gone by and SBITS Productions is getting ready to plan the next season of live entertainment with Bare Oaks Players.

Before doing this, a bit about the 2013-2014 season of Bare Oaks Players accomplishments.

Summer 2014 brought a lot of hidden talent amongst the Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park (Sharon, Ontario).

Three one act plays presented, live music at the Bare Bistro and many days of Poetry readings.

Our most recent accomplishment and final commitment for 2013-2014 was the benefit presentation of The Vagina Monologues.

We have recently returned from the Bare Necessities cruise and are pleased to advise that we delivered (3) three successful and fruitful benefit performances of TVM 2015. A financial recap is provided below:

·       In 2014, we raised $4,580 CAN with tickets sold at $10 US and smaller capacity (onboard venue was 450 total).

·       In 2015, we raised $8,740 CAN with tickets sold at $15 US and bigger capacity (onboard venue was 600 total).

So, we will be contributing $874 CAN to VDAY and $8,000 CAN to YRAP this year – our local beneficiary. Wow!

An enormous thank you from SBITS Productions (Suzy and Marc) to the cast and crew of Bare Oaks Players for the class acts that we delivered to Bare Oaks and the passengers/crew of the Bare Necessities cruise this year.

Our next season 2015-2016

Bare Oaks Players is calling for a reading of plays on Saturday March 21^st, starting at 2pm at the Clubhouse, upstairs conference room.

We hope to see you at Bare Oaks for this event.

VDAY Newmarket TVM 2015 presentation - January 24th, 2015

A special benefit performance for the members of Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park and naturist friends, on Saturday January 24, 2015.

With permission from the VDAY organization and in association with the Bare Bistro, Bare Oaks Players will be presenting a polished ‘undressed’ rehearsal of the new 2015 version of The Vagina Monologues.

You saw it last year? Well, we have 2 new monologues, 1 new ensemble piece and 3 new ladies on stage and we would love your feedback.

Dinner and TVM: $25/person

TVM only: $15/person

Dinner only: $15/person

Tickets on sale at the Bare Oaks clubhouse, Bare Bistro or you can reserve your ticket(s) by sending an email to bop@bareoaks.ca and we will echo back a confirmation.

All (100%) proceeds go to VDAY and York Region Abuse Program – our local beneficiary.

Bistro buffet will include chicken parmesan, Caesar salad, side pasta, bread and cake.

The Vagina Monologues (TVM) 2015 and more

Although the peak season at Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park has ended, some members of Bare Oaks Players continue their journey.SBITS Productions has been asked to produce The Vagina Monologues again this winter, to present on one of the upcoming Bare Necessities Nude cruise.
We are pleased to tell you that:

• We have 2 new Bare Oaks Players members in the cast (Judy and Lise)
• We have a young new naturist from Toronto (Chantelle)
• We have new content to work on and present: 3 new monologues!

We are just starting our rehearsals and I can tell you that our directors are already pushing all of us outside our comfort level.

Yes, Bare Necessities has asked SBITS Productions to also run theatre workshops during the 4 "At Sea days", during our voyage.
In association with Bare Oaks Players, SBITS Productions we will be offering 4 theatre workshops for the passengers.
 
Bare Oaks Players – Preparing for Season 2 (2014-2015)
I know it sounds like it is far away but for a theatre group, a lot of the work happens behind the scene.
Selecting a play or plays to present, is one of the most challenging task in theatre productions. You have to make sure that the audience will enjoy the content and that your troupe has the capability to deliver a professional, polished production.

This is where we call for your input. We need ideas from you on plays to produce.
Send us a quick note with play or plays that you feel we should read and potential perform this season.
Any thespian or audience member is welcome to submit plays for the reading committee. So, do delay, email us at bop@bareoaks.ca

 
We would like to firm up our Playbill for 2014/2015 by early April 2015, giving us sufficient time to request permission(s) to perform.
Keep a few things in mind.

• Production length should be kept to 90 minutes or less
• Royalty cost can be prohibitive. Big shows, Current shows playing, Classics, can yield extremely high royalty fees.
• Known authors versus local talent will also inflation cost/production 

POETRY and "P" for our palette
Check out the Bare Oaks calendar. It already contains our Poetry dates.
 
Ramona will be hosting the Poetry events this year, in association with the Bare Bistro.
We are looking at offering a special "P" for your palette at each event. For example, it could be Poetry and Poutine. How about Poetry and Pizza or Perogies or….
I think you get the idea. Again, share some of your thoughts.


Our dates are: May 31, June 21, July 19 and August 30, 2015.

What is MMRP? It stands for A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer.

It is a collection of 50 monologues written by various authors/artists and promoted by the VDAY organization – Eve Ensler.
Many of the pieces are written by men and are to be 'read' by men.

SUMMER One Act Evening

We closed our Inaugural One Act Evening on August 23rd, 2014 to a "standing room only" audience. What else could a newly formed artistic troupe want.

For those of you who had a chance to get a ticket to one of our 4 performances, thank you very much for supporting us.  Without an audience, we are just delivering lines to the void.

We did try to accommodate as many audience members as possible but did not want to 'crowd' the place. We even added a 4th performance at 6pm on August 16th.

A HUGE thank you to cast and crew and Bare Oaks members that contributed in so many different aspects of our artistic delivery.

We built:

• 6 more risers to augment our stage (elevated) space
• 10 flats including 2 doors and 2 windows
• Curtains for the entire Outback
• A clean area in the storage space to facilitate a dressing room and furniture, props, storage for the actors and backstage crew
• 6 Blackout curtains to mask the backstage area
• Several risers to facilitate staging and backstage navigation
• An ecosystem a passionate thespians and artist that want to participate in our next season

Musical Talent

We continue to offer musical talent at the Bare Bistro and will be seeking new talent in the coming season.  Please let us know if you are interested or if you know of someone.


TVM 2015

We have completed the auditions for the upcoming VDAY 2015 TVM presentation and the result of our final cast member selection should be made by early September 2014.  Standby for details.

Final TVM 2015 Auditions

Please be advised that our final audition for The Vagina Monologues (V Day 2015) will take place on Saturday August 16, 2014 starting at 4:00pm.

Audition is by appointment only. Contact us at bop@bareoaks.ca to book a time.

You need to present a short monologue that is not from TVM.
We will then ask for various readings from last year's TVM script.
We anticipate your audition to take 15-20 minutes.

There will be a panel of Bare Oaks Players members present during the auditions and making the final casting decision.  It is worthwhile noting that the directors' vision is to complete the cast with a younger woman, if possible.

Auditions will be held at Lot 124 Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park.

Inaugural One Act Evening

Bare Oaks Players is pleased to announce our first One Act Evening.
Three (3) one-act plays are currently in rehearsal stage and based on what I have seen to-date, it’s going to be GREAT!

All 3 plays will be presented together, as a package of One Acts.  We have confirmed the performances dates for August 2014.

What will be presented and how long is each play?

The first one act play is entitled “Post-Its” written by Paul Dooley and Winnie Holzman. Duration: Approx. 15 minutes

The authors refer to this lovely piece as Notes on a Marriage and will be performed by Judy M. and Gary A.

It will be followed by “Nude on the Beach” written by Martin E. Williams and Johnna Adams. Duration: Approx. 15 minutes

A play setting which delivers a strong message about relationships and will be performed by Royce N. and Suzy B.

We will then have a 20-30 minute intermission in order to prepare the stage for the final production, “Visitor from Forest Hills” written by Neil Simon.
Duration: Approx. 30 minutes.

For those thespians out there, this is an extract from Plaza Suite (A full 4 Act play).

A wedding preparation so farcical, it WILL make you laugh. The leads roles will be performed by Steve M. and Joy T.

We are getting very close with the final design. Until we have confirmed the font, dimensions and converting it using more sophisticated software (matrix based), we will use this one.

Poetry reading
Wow. Our event of June 22nd, 2014 was so well received, that we were asked to arrange another Poetry gathering.
Well, it is set for Sunday July 27th @ 3:00pm. This time, rather than a lunch Potluck, we will have a Tea Poetry Afternoon.

Other events evolving with Bare Oaks Players
Dine and Listen
In association with the Bare Bistro, we are now featuring musical talent.
We have someone lined up for this summer, a contemporary singer-songwriter Jesse Elliot.
Jesse Elliot will be performing every Saturday (with the exception of Saturday July 5th, 2014) at the Bare Bistro from 6pm to 8pm.
Writing Club
Some members have mentioned their ‘ink’ling  to put pen to paper and write something, possibly a play to be performed next season (2015-2016).
Some members have already started writing pieces and are looking for a platform to help them or simply enhance their writing experience.
On Saturday July 12th, a gathering of writers will take place in the Clubhouse meeting room from 1:00pm-2:30pm.
One of the projects that we have started, is a Dinner Theatre Murder Mystery script, that we hope to present sometime in our next season 2015-2016.

Final commitments for 2014-2015 season and TVM 2015 auditions

Several months ago, we published a tentative playbill format for this first full season.  Due to lack of membership at this time, we have decided to limit our commitments to three (3) one act plays, to be presented sometime in July/August 2014.

We continue to hold open auditions and readings of several plays that our members have put forward.

We are still looking for volunteer actors.

Open readings/auditions will be held on:

Saturday May 17th – 3:30pm to 5:00pm (Lot 124)

Sunday May 18th – 3:30pm to 5pm (Lot 124)

Please come. No obligations. Reading out loud is a lot of fun. Try it.

BIG NEWS and thank you to Bare Necessities!

Our final commitment for this season is another presentation of TVM (The Vagina Monologues) using the 2015 V-Day script (to be published).

We will be holding auditions for female naturist actors who are interested in participating in this upcoming production.

Unlike the open auditions, this one will be by appointment only and must entail some preparation by the actor. A panel of Bare Oaks Players members as well as the producer, will be present.

Here are the requirements:

• Must contact Bare Oaks Players via email to book a 30 minute appointment
• Must have a 3-5 minute monologue prepared, not from TVM
• Must be prepared to commit to 1 weekly rehearsal, to be held at Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park starting in Sept 2014
• Must be committed to perform Feb 12 thru Feb 21, 2015 and travel (cruise)
• Must be able to cover own expenses related to travelling to/from venue. Food and accommodation will be provided by Bare Necessities once onboard
• Must have a valid passport
• Must be a naturist
• Must be willing to sign a waiver, allowing the producer to use photos related to promoting the V-Day 2015 event
• Must be willing to prepare and participate in V-Day workshops during the 4 “at sea” days during the voyage
• If you have not guessed, the venue will be on board the Celebrity Constellation – French Virgin Islands.

Audition times:

Friday May 30th – 7pm to 9pm

Wednesday June 4th – 7pm to 9pm

Friday June 6th – 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Thank you all for your input and votes against the 7 logos published.

Based on the feedback, we have modified it to include an Oak leaf and the inclusion of the Tragedy/Comedy masks, denoting that we are a theatre troupe.

A rough image is depicted below.

We are now seeking a graphic artist that can enhance the colours, image, font, dimensions, etc… and achieve end state.

If you know someone that can help, jump in.

We would like to start using it on all our material/publication, starting early June 2014.
